About our Wooden Jigsaw Puzzles

Construction Basics:

All of our unigue puzzles are handcrafted from quality materials, with each piece cut individually. Our wooden jigsaw puzzles start with defect free 1/4" plywood which serves as the base of the puzzle. The puzzle's art is then glued to the plywood using a vaccuum press, ensuring a reliable and permanent bond. All of our puzzles blanks are then treated with a finish that defends against damage from moisture, UV light, and smudging. Once the puzzle back is sanded, an oil finish is applied to add additional protection.

Cutting Styles:

There are two basic cut styles that we offer; a traditional style cut similar to those used in most commercially made puzzles, and a random cut style. The random cut style makes personalization of your jigsaw puzzle possible, and can also make the puzzle more difficult and enjoyable to solve.

Personalization:

Random cut jigsaw puzzles may be personalized using a variety of styles. The editing of a photo or picture using computer software to add text, borders, or any other custom touch may be done on most of our puzzles. Figural pieces, or puzzle pieces cut into a desired shape, may be added. Most of our random cut puzzles include these pieces, with the option to purchase additional ones. Here is an example of figural pieces used in a puzzle designed for an avid hunter:

Puzzle Difficulty:

Increasing a puzzle's difficulty can be acheived in a number of ways. Piece density, or the number of pieces per inch, is the most common way to increase a jigsaw puzzle's level of difficulty. Puzzles with a smaller number of pieces are generally easier to solve than the same size puzzle utilizing twice the number of pieces. umber of pieces.

Puzzles may also employ an irregular edge style to increase difficulty. An irregular edge follows the outline of a well defined section of the image, therby eliminating the corner pieces and straight edge pieces which most puzzlers start with during assembly.

The image that you select has a large effecr on the puzzle's difficulty. Images with small random patterns, such as a field of flowers, would be more difficult to solve than an image of a single flower.

Sometimes the editing of the image itself can increase of puzzles difficulty. Simply printing an image in black and white or sepia will prevent of puzzler from recognizing a color pattern that would aid during assembly.
